Piaggio Vespa Gearbox Shim Vespa PX (1984-) EFL, T5 125cc, PK, V50, PV125, ET3

BGM gearbox shoulder rings are crafted with exceptional precision. They undergo hardening and plane-parallel grinding to achieve an accuracy within one hundredth of a millimeter, ensuring exact adherence to specified dimensions. Quality control limits any undersize deviation to a maximum of four hundredths of a millimeter, making BGM rings significantly more precise than those from Piaggio.

Info
shoulder rings are used to compensate for the axial play between the gang wheels. The spacing of the gear wheels is essential for a cleanly working shift. The closer the clearance is chosen, the less the gears can slip sideways. The gear change becomes more precise because the shift paddle engages exactly in the middle of the gear wheel and does not push it away. It is therefore worthwhile to measure the gearbox precisely.

The play specified by Piaggio is 0.15-0.40mm. It is determined with a feeler gauge between gear wheel and shoulder ring.

  • thick (2.0-2.5mm original with only one nose) suitable for Vespa Largeframe from 1952-1984
  • thin (0.9-1,4mm with four noses) suitable for Vespa Smallframe and Vespa Largeframe from 1984 onwards (main shaft with two shoulder rings/sea rings)

Earlier Vespa
The thick shoulder rings for Largeframe Vespas produced before 1984 have long been unavailable from Piaggio. bgm PRO now reintroduces these rings in thicknesses ranging from 2mm to 2.50mm, restoring compatibility for these gearboxes. Unlike the original design, the new version features four locking lugs, similar to the more robust Vespa PX Lusso model, eliminating the risk of the single nose being knocked off.

TIP: The exact determination of the play between the gearwheels is only possible with a feeler gauge Do not forget a new Cruciform and the use of a our Gear Oil.
